ViewJefferson in Athens
Thomas Jefferson—author of the Declaration of Independence, first Secretary of State, third President of the United States, and founder of the University of Virginia—engaged deeply with classical Greek political thought and corresponded with Adamantios Korais, a leading figure of the Greek Enlightenment.
This bust was created to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Petrides modeled the head from four period portraits regarded as among the best likenesses of Jefferson.
Installation in process.
