From clay to finished sculpture

At Petrides Public Sculpture, clay modeling, 3D scanning, and digital sculpting work together. A portrait can grow from tabletop scale to an oversized outdoor figure while retaining the marks of the artist’s hand.

Printed works use 100% recycled PETG, often sourced from discarded medical packaging. PPS developed its own large-format printer with a technical team over the course of a year. Its 60 × 60 × 120 cm build volume allows an over-life-size sculpture to be fabricated in as few as three parts, assembled over a metal skeleton.

The printed form is a beginning. Petrides cuts and rebuilds it with epoxy modeling compound, sometimes scanning and printing it again. Once the form is settled, it is cast in bronze at a foundry or coated in the studio with real metal, including brass, copper, aluminum, or iron.

Patinas are worked by hand with acids and pigments. Finished outdoor works are sealed for long-term durability.
