For the 2023 reopening of The Landmark at 727 Fifth Avenue, Tiffany & Co., working with Peter Marino, commissioned Petrides to create a work for the Landmark’s contemporary art collection.

Petrides modeled the head in clay, drawing on black-and-white photographs of his mother as a young woman, taken around 1950. The bronze was cast near ancient Thebes and finished in a custom patina developed to echo Tiffany’s signature color.

Detail: Tiffany blue patina over cast bronze

Purpose: A work for the contemporary art collection of The Landmark, Tiffany & Co.’s flagship at 727 Fifth Avenue, for its 2023 reopening.
Figure, material and scale: A head of Thalia modeled from photographs of the sculptor’s mother as a young woman, around 1950, after the Thalia in the Vatican Museums. Cast in bronze near ancient Thebes and finished in a patina developed to echo Tiffany’s signature colour; 38 cm high.
Setting and audience: The Landmark at 727 Fifth Avenue, New York, within a collection assembled with the architect Peter Marino.
