Aretaieia stands at the entrance of Greece’s first university hospital, across Vasilissis Sofias Avenue from the U.S. Embassy. The over-life-size figure honors the hospital’s long tradition of women’s health: gynecological care at Aretaieion dates to 1906, with an independent University Gynecology Clinic established in 1922.
It is made from PETG recycled from discarded medical packaging, a material chosen for a hospital commission and designed for permanent outdoor installation.

Purpose
To honour Aretaieion’s long tradition of women’s health: gynaecological care at the hospital dates to 1906, and its independent University Gynaecology Clinic to 1922.
Figure, material and scale
An over-life-size figure, 220 cm high without its base, in a gold patina and metal coating over PETG recycled from discarded medical packaging, a material chosen for a hospital and for permanent outdoor display.
Setting and audience
At the entrance of Greece’s first university hospital, on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue opposite the U.S. Embassy, seen daily by patients, staff and passers-by.
Studio’s role
Modelled in clay, 3D-scanned and refined digitally, printed at scale and hand-finished in metals and patinas in the Petrides studio.
